The Sinnanagavilluwa village in Wanathavilluwa had been submerged for almost two months, with authorities failing to take remedial action.

The village was flooded during the recent Cyclone Ditwah with water completely inundating the houses for 10 days.

This situation was reported in the media on several occasions and the authorities were informed.

Director General of Disaster Management, Sampath Kotuwegoda accompanied by the Disaster Management Center for Puttalam, and officials including the Wanathavilluwa Divisional Secretary, on Thursday inspected the location.

However, journalists who went to the location to report on the situation were told that they were unable to travel on the naval vessels.

The DG said the Navy, which supplied the vessels, had expressed its disapproval. Navy personnel at the scene said they were not informed by higher-ups not to take the media.

Villagers said they expected the DMC to intervene much earlier as the media had highlighted the issue.

They said they were expecting a prompt response from the DMC and local officials as normalcy has been completely affected.
