The Colombo District Court has issued an interim order restraining the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) from taking any steps to expel SLMC Colombo Municipal Councillor M.B. Fathima Buhary from the party and remove her from her MC seat.
Ms Buhary had recently voted in support of the Colombo Municipal Council’s 2026 Budget.
District Judge G.L. Kannangara ordered that notices be issued to SLMC Leader Rauff Hakeem, A.L. Abdul Majeed and Party Secretary Nizam Kariapper to be present in court on January 27 and that this order be also conveyed to them via phone.
The judge gave the order after considering submissions made by Attorney-at-Law Shivan Cooray, who appeared for Ms Buhary along with Attorneys Yoshitha Kasun and Rukshan Mendis, instructed by Sampath Jaliyantha. The judge ordered the respondents not to take any action to expel the complainant until the conclusion of the case.
