MPs’ salaries: CIABOC seeks clarification from Parliament
View(s):By Ranjith Padmasiri
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has sought clarification from Parliament on whether parliamentarians’ salaries were being credited to a specific account or the accounts of the respective MPs.
This follows a complaint by former MP Udaya Gammanpila. In his complaint, he claimed that the monthly payments made of public funds to the NPP members were being used for political purposes, and this amounted to corruption.
Mr Gammanpila lodged the complaint on September 21 last year. Mr Gammanpila said that under existing legal provisions, he would seek a response from the CIABOC over the progress of the investigations.
