Kumon Dehiwala Celebrates Excellence at ASHR Awards Ceremony 2025
View(s):Dehiwala — In a glittering evening of celebration, Kumon Dehiwala held its Annual Advanced Student Honor Roll (ASHR) Awards Ceremony for 2025, honouring students who achieved remarkable academic advancement beyond their school grade levels. The event was held at the Buddhist Cultural Centre, with over 500 participants of students, parents and distinguished guests in attendance.
Themed “Small Wins – Big Futures”, the celebration emphasised that excellence in the classroom leads to broader horizons of confidence, curiosity and life-skills. Over 200 students who have mastered their subject tracks and moved on to advanced levels were awarded this year, including 38 programme completers.
Among the highlight moments, the Centre’s Directress, Mrs. Femidah Wahid, emphasised her vision on broadening the Centre’s digital student base by enhancing a child’s learning journey through the Kumon Connect platform. She stated: “We don’t just teach math and language – we empower children to dream, to challenge and excel – this time digitally.”
The Chief Guest, Mrs. Minu Padam (Group Leader, Field Development Group, Kumon India Sri Lanka), congratulated the awardees and praised the Centre for being one of the top-performing Kumon centres globally and for being the first branch across the India Sri Lanka division to bag down two international awards this year for both the mathematics and native-language programme. She also highlighted that this ceremony reflects the philosophy of Kumon’s founder- Toru Kumon: learning by ability, not by age.
Exciting performance segments by the students — from short dramas to musical interludes — underscored the theme and gave the evening a warm, celebratory feel. Parents, too, expressed pride in seeing their children recognised. One parent said: “What we saw tonight was more than certificates — we saw confidence in our child.”
In closing remarks, the Centre reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing young minds, emphasising sustained effort, independent thinking and a strong foundation. The Centre also announced upcoming initiatives for 2026 with a prime focus on digital-learning integration, reinforcing that the path ahead is as important as the achievements of today. Kumon is a programme driven to integrate learning with multi-cultural acceptance, critical thinking, emotional intelligence and social responsibility-all of which are essentials of the 21st century skills. It is a school community within which academic success is the outcome of self-learning.
