Innovators recognised at All-Island Schools National Startup Innovation Event
View(s):S Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia successfully conducted the nation’s first All-Island Schools National Startup Innovation Event on Sunday.
The landmark event, a cornerstone of the college’s grand 175th anniversary celebrations and held in partnership with Global Entrepreneurship Week 2025, showcased the exceptional talent and innovative spirit of Lankan youth.
The day offered a dynamic platform for the country’s bright young minds. It commenced with an intense pitching session at the College Hall, where the top 25 shortlisted teams presented their groundbreaking ideas to a panel of esteemed judges from industry and investment. Following the pitches, attendees networked over lunch, which seamlessly transitioned into a public exhibition.
The event culminated in an awards ceremony, where promising startups were recognised for their potential to drive change and economic growth.
The top honours for the overall competition were awarded to:
- Winner: Biotrend from Taxila Central College, Horana
- 1st Runner-Up: TravelSri from Ladies College, Colombo 7
- 2nd Runner-Up: Helios Ride from S Thomas’ Preparatory School
In addition to the overall awards, special category winners were announced, highlighting diverse aspects of innovation:
Most Impactful Solution Category:
- Winner: Deaf Blind Walking Stick – Asian International School
- 1st Runner-Up: Mindventors – Jaffna College
- 2nd Runner-Up: Smart Wheel Chair Project – Buddhist Ladies College
Best Female-Led Team Category:
- Winner: Tileva – Hejaaz International School (Girls)
- 1st Runner-Up: Lanka Celebrations – Jaffna College
- 2nd Runner-Up: Ecowrite – Hejaaz International School
