The much-anticipated Annual Staff Workshop of Gateway College returned in grand style on the 17th and 18th of October 2025, bringing together over 650 teachers from the five Gateway campuses at the scenic Jetwing Blue Ballroom and adjoining venues — Jetwing Beach and Sentido Heritance Negombo.
This year’s event, meticulously organised by Gateway College Negombo, embraced the enchanting theme “Breeze, Beats & Boho Dreams,” capturing the free-spirited essence of the Bohemian lifestyle and setting the tone for a weekend of learning, reflection, and celebration.
The workshop weekend began with teachers from all five Gateway schools grouped into 16 focus groups. This structure allowed teachers from parallel schools to engage in meaningful dialogue about new curricular implementations, including reformed schemes of work, updated textbooks, and innovative teaching strategies. The sessions encouraged open discussion and reflective sharing, enabling teachers to learn from one another and bring fresh ideas and approaches back to their own classrooms.
Sessions across clusters and subsequent discussions delved into contemporary topics such as AI in education, wellbeing, sustainability in learning, and gamification — reflecting Gateway’s forward-looking approach to pedagogy. Many participants shared how valuable it was to meet, in person, colleagues they usually interact with virtually. The sessions renewed a sense of shared purpose and belonging, reinforcing the spirit of collaboration that lies at the heart of the Gateway teaching community.
Breeze, Beats & Boho Dreams – A Night to Remember
As the first day drew to a close, the energy of the day transitioned into a night of colour, rhythm, and celebration. The evening began with a vibrant cultural show organised by Gateway College Negombo, featuring performances from its entire staff. The show brought together music, dance, and artistic expression from diverse cultures, showcasing the creativity, unity, and enthusiasm of the Negombo team.
Following the performances, the Bohemian-themed celebration came alive under the gentle coastal breeze, with staff members dressed in colourful boho-inspired attire that perfectly matched the evening’s “Breeze, Beats & Boho Dreams” theme. The night was filled with laughter, entertainment, and dance — an unforgettable conclusion to a get-together that beautifully blended professional enrichment with fellowship and joy.

Continuing a proud tradition of over 27 years, the Annual Staff Workshop remains a cornerstone of the Gateway philosophy envisioned by the Founder, the late Mr. R. I. T. Alles.
