CINEC’s NEXORA 2025: A Landmark Industry–Academia Forum Redefining Sri Lanka’s Higher Education
Setting a new milestone in Sri Lanka’s higher education landscape, CINEC Campus has emerged as a trailblazer by pioneering NEXORA 2025: a first-of-its-kind industry–academia nexus that brought together all eight faculties of the institution under one umbrella together with respective industry partners. The event marked a defining step in bridging academic research with industrial innovation, reaffirming CINEC’s standing as a leader among non-state higher education institutions.
Hosted under the banner of the 6th CINEC International Research Symposium (CIRS 2025), NEXORA unfolded in grand style at the Hilton Colombo Residences, attracting more than 200 professionals, academics, and industry leaders. The initiative symbolized CINEC’s vision to create a national platform where industry meets academia to shape the future workforce and foster sustainable innovation.
The forum was graced by Chief Guest Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, Chief Advisor to the President on Digital Economy, whose address captivated the audience with a powerful message on transforming universities into engines of innovation. Distinguished Guests of Honours – Desamanya Mahesh Amalean (Chairman, MAS Holdings), Prof. Ananda Jayawardane (Former Vice Chancellor, University of Moratuwa), and Prof. Ranjith Dissanayake (Chairman, Gap HQ), added immense depth to the dialogue.
A highlight of the day was the TriNova 3-Minute Innovation Competition, where young Sri Lankans aged 18–29 presented bold, sustainable ideas in just three minutes. The winning innovation, “Iskole Bus”, introduced an intelligent tracking system for school transport, a brilliant example of youth-driven problem solving and creativity.
The competition was proudly powered by Prym Intimates Lanka, the Platinum Sponsor and Title Partner of TriNova, alongside fellow Platinum Sponsors Hayleys Solar and EWIS. EWIS also partnered as the Official IT Partner and Title Sponsor for the Digital Transformations session, while Hayleys Solar led the Sustainable Innovations session -symbolizing the strength of partnerships that unite academia with industry for collective progress.
The momentum continued at CINEC Campus – Malabe, where the second phase of CIRS 2025 featured technical sessions across eight technical sessions. These sessions showcased cutting-edge research with direct implications for industry and national sustainability goals.
The keynote address by Prof. Dilushan Jayasundara of the University of Colombo, titled “Upcycling for Sustainable Development,” offered a visionary call for using waste from one industry to treat waste in another, turning challenges into circular solutions for a greener future.
NEXORA 2025 was an initiative spearheaded by Dr. Janaka Liyanagama and Prof. Sudesh Wijesinghe, supported by key academic members including Mr. Randeera Liyanage, Ms. Dushani Munasinghe, Ms. Keshani Abenayake, and Ms. Kalani Dissanayake, under the visionary leadership of Capt. Ajith Peiris, President and CEO of CINEC Campus, together with the Senior Management. Their collective foresight and dedication have positioned CINEC as a national frontrunner in redefining industry–academia collaboration.
With NEXORA, CINEC Campus has not only reimagined what a university–industry partnership can achieve but has also inspired a new movement, one that champions research, innovation, and collaboration as the driving forces behind Sri Lanka’s sustainable future.
