Three-day integrated environment programme in Thabbowa
View(s):In a move to address the human – elephant conflict a three-day integrated programme was launched at the Karuwalagaswewa Wildlife Office in the Puttalam District.
The programme that ends today was carried out under the Clean Sri Lanka drive of the government and in line with the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance and the new national environmental reform mechanism, began on Thursday.
The programme included the removal of alien aquatic vegetation from the Thabbowa Reservoir clearing of invasive plant species in forest and wildlife sanctuaries, the rehabilitation of several small tanks in these sanctuaries, upkeep of electric fences, and marking of protected zones surrounding the Thabbowa Reservoir.
The programme was implemented jointly by the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Public Administration and Provincial Councils, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation.
