MV X-Press Pearl Compensation Commission members named

Independent experts to the MV X-Press Pearl Compensation Commission have been named, the Supreme Court was informed this week.
Accordingly, experts from the field of marine environment, coastal environment, marine biology, environmental law and fisheries have been named to the commission which is headed by retired Supreme Court Justice Gamini Amarasekara.
The members are Dr H B Jayasiri (marine environment), H N R Perera (coastal environment), Dr Rekha Maldeniya (marine biology), Dr Jagath Gunawardena (environmental law) and Dr Sunil Jayakody (fisheries) have been named.
In addition, 6 non-state experts also have been appointed. They are; Prof Kamal Ranatunga, Prof Sewwandi Jaykody, Dr Lalith Ekanayake, Dr Chaturangi Wickramaratne, Dr Yohan Mahagamage and Dr Ajantha Perera.
The court was informed about the appointment of the experts to the commission when the petition was taken up before Justice Shiran Gooneratne, Achala Wengappuli and K Priyantha Fernando was taken up recently.
