Sri Lanka to host multinational air force training programme
View(s):Bringing together defence forces from the United States, Australia, Japan, India, Maldives, and Bangladesh, Sri Lanka will host Exercise Pacific Angel 2025, a multinational training focused on disaster response and regional security cooperation from September 8 to 12.
The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) said around 300 personnel will take part in the exercise, including 123 personnel from foreign contingents. The Sri Lanka Army and Navy will also contribute to the training.
‘Pacific Angel’ will centre on Search and Rescue (SAR) and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations. The programme includes eight Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEEs) covering areas such as aircraft maintenance, jungle survival, aeromedical patient movement, mass casualty response, helicopter hoist operations, aircrew operations, airlift cargo handling, and a military band resilience programme.
The main training activities will be held at the SLAF Base Katunayake, with SLAF Academy China Bay and the SLAF Regimental Training Centre Ampara serving as specialist venues.
The United States Air Force will deploy two C-130J transport aircraft for the exercise. The SLAF will contribute a Bell 412, a B-212 helicopter, and a King Air 350 aircraft, while the Sri Lanka Navy will provide selected vessels for the maritime component.
“For Sri Lanka, the exercise carries particular significance. It not only strengthens the operational proficiency of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Navy, and Army, but also enhances the nation’s disaster-response capacity, technical expertise and elevates the country’s international profile” the SLAF stated.
