Former SLPP Pradeshiya Sabha member nabbed for keeping two ‘ice’ containers
View(s):Former Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Pradeshiya Sabha member Sampath Manamperi was arrested by the police yesterday after two methamphetamine (‘ice’) containers were discovered on his land.
A 38-year-old relative, Wijewickrama Manamperige Piyal Senadheera, was also allegedly involved with chemicals used to manufacture crystal methamphetamine (‘ice’) in Middeniya and arrested by police later.
Meanwhile the General Secretary of SLPP Sagara Kariyawasam said that the party membership of Sampath Manamperi has been suspended.
He further stated that the SLPP has always been concerned about the integrity of its party members and emphasised its commitment to upholding the law.
Speaking to the media yesterday, Deputy Minister of Public Security Sunil Watagala explained the overall incidents involving underworld criminals in the country and emphasised that the government took action against each incident as it occurred.
