Daya named new RTI Commission Chief

Senior journalist Daya Lankapura has been named as Chairman of the Right to Information (RTI) Commission of Sri Lanka. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake made the appointment this week following approval by the Constitutional Council (CC).

Mr. Lankapura is a veteran journalist with over 60 years in the field. He started his journalism career in 1965 at the ‘Attha’ newspaper, the official organ of the Communist Party.

A graduate of the University of Colombo, Mr. Lankapura also worked at the Divaina, Silumina, Dinamina, Rivira and Lakbima newspapers as well as the BBC’s Sandeshaya correspondent and at the Government Information Department.

He was a courts reporter, having covered the famous Premawathi Manamperi murder case at the Galle Magistrate’s Court. He is also a long-standing parliamentary correspondent.
