Australia’s Governor General and Commander-in-Chief Samantha Joy Mostyn, currently on an official visit to Sri Lanka, paid respects to Australian nationals laid to rest at the Commonwealth War Graves site at the Borella General Cemetery.

She attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the site, commemorating the Australian servicemen and women who lost their lives in Sri Lanka during World War I and World War II.

The ceremony was led by Colombo-based members of the Australian Defence Force and was attended by the Mayor of Colombo Vraie Cally Balthazaar.

In addition, Governor-General Mostyn toured the tsunami museum in Galle, and paid tribute to the victims of the devastating 2004 natural disaster. She also spoke to local residents who were affected by the tsunami.
