The construction of an auditorium, arts theatre and an indoor stadium launched in Anamaduwa, coinciding with the ‘Deyata Kirula’ prorgamme held in Anuradhapura in 2014, has come to a complete standstill leaving behind the half-constructed structures.
The estimated cost of the project was said to be Rs. 51 million and total of Rs. 30 million has been paid to the contractor for two stages by the North-Western Province Regional Engineer’s Department.
Under the original plan facilities for those taking part in sports to stay
overnight was also to be provided.
Terrance Wanigasinha, a sportsman and social service activist said that if the project is completed it would be useful for sports persons coming from the region as well as for those engaged in the arts.
He said currently the place is overgrown and used for nefarious activities.
