O/Level students in Colombo District to get vocational courses
View(s):Students who sat for the GCE Ordinary Level exam this year in the Colombo District are to be provided an opportunity to attend courses on scholarships until Advanced Level classes begin.
The programme was designed on a concept of Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga under the “Supasan Nimthera” education foundation.
A total of 32 courses are introduced which include English, Computer and Tamil, and students would be able to gain admission to Government-certified Certificate, Diploma and NVQ courses free of charge. A special career guidance programme will be held for this with the contributions of resources from several institutions including the Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority, NAITA, together with the Zonal Education Office.
Students who attend these courses have the possibility of admission to government professional courses on free or subsidised rates and obtaining diploma certificates for courses like English, Computer, Tamil etc.
They would be taught how to earn a high income from home within the period of Advanced Level, and given advice on what subjects to study for Advanced Level, Z-scores and entrance into University.
Students would also be educated on the newest job trends and paths to jobs in high income countries like Japan, Korea, New Zealand and Australia.
Those willing to attend the programme are required to fill the application provided to them on the last day of the Ordinary Level exam and send a photocopy of it to the WhatsApp number 076 422 0756 before June 8. (SJA)
