The Education Ministry has decided to take strict action against teachers promoting pyramid schemes and cryptocurrency payment systems in schools.

The move comes following complaints that teachers were involved in illegal pyramid schemes and have started promoting them among students within the classrooms.

Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said that they were planning to have an awareness programme within schools to educate students not to fall for such scams.

He hoped the programmes will help to educate the students about the ill-effects of such illegal schemes.

He said that they would not allow any promotional activities including seminars on pyramid schemes.

Police and zonal educational offices have been alerted to ensure that no promotional events are held in schools regarding pyramid schemes which have been spreading in the country.

If teachers or non-academic staff are detected promoting pyramid schemes, action would be initiated against them.
