Cheating and assaults reported at O/Level exams
View(s):A string of investigations over malpractices at the GCE O/L examination and incidents of violence are being probed by the Examinations Department.
Commissioner General of Examinations Amith Jayasundara said that among the incidents were complaints about impersonation of candidates and an incident where a student was assaulted inside an examination centre.
He said action would be taken against students involved in the violence. Among other incidents were two cases of photographing the O/L Maths paper and sending it to an outsider anticipating answers to questions.
Two students of Henegama Mada Maha Vidyala, Weliweriya and Wellassa National School have been accused of photographing the Maths paper.
Staff members at the examination centre detected the fraudulent acts and informed the Examinations Department.
In the incident at Wellassa, the candidate had sent the paper via WhatsApp to a Maths teacher.
In a separate case, a student who was impersonating his brother was also detected.
At St Anthony’s College, Katugastota, several students assaulted a candidate from the same school. As a result, the student could not sit the second Maths paper. Subsequently another examination centre in Kandy was provided.
Police are carrying out a separate investigation into the case.
