P.K. Dinura. R.P. Gunatilake of Royal College won three gold medals and a medal each of silver and bronze medal at the Intermediate Age Group Swimming Championships 2023, organised and conducted by Sri Lanka Aquatic Sport Union at the Sugathadasa Stadium held earlier this week.

Competing in the Under-15 age category, where he was adjudged the overall champion, Dinura won the three gold medals in the 400m Freestyle, 200m Butterfly and 1500m Freestyle events. He clocked 5 minutes and 10.55 seconds in the 400m Freestyle event to claim the gold medal as he went on to clock 2 minutes and 57.70 seconds to win the 200m Butterfly event. To claim his third gold medal of the meet, Dinura clocked 21 minutes and 28.28 seconds to finish first in the 1500m Freestyle event.

After a tense battle Dinura settled in to claim the silver medal in the 100m Butterfly event clocking 1 minute and 17.12 seconds while he pocketed the bronze medal with a timing of 1 minute and 05.97 seconds.

Dinura was nurtured by his coach Sampath Jayaratne before coming under the wings of the Royal College swimming coach Kingsley Bandara. The upcoming swimmer received his awards from guest of honour, Mahinda Liyanage, the General Secretary of Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union.
