Dhamso International Chess Festival next week

The Old Boys’ Chess Association of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda will organise the Dhamso International Chess Festival 2023, an internationally rated open chess event, for the tenth time in collaboration with the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka and FIDE, with a total prize of nearly Rs.1.4 million in cash awards, certificates, medals and trophies. The event will be played according to the Swiss System with 10 rounds from May 26 to 30, with the Dhamso player of the year slotted to be awarded a cash award of Rs.150,000.
The 10th Dhamso International Chess Festival 2023 will be held at Hotel Lavanga Resort and Spa, located in one of the most popular tourist cities, Hikkaduwa. This year the Dhamso organising team will take every effort to organise the event at a superior level. It would not just be a FIDE rated event as May 27 will be the date for the international rated blitz event, with a rapid event for parents, a crazy tournament and workshops for trainers, arbiters and parents have been included in the five-day event. The parents’ workshop will be conducted by Professor B.L.H. Perera on the topic of the Importance of Sport, Education and Childhood, while the Trainers’ Workshop will be conducted by FIDE Instructor Gihan de Silva. The Arbiters’ Workshop will be done by IA Malith Akalanka. All top games will be streamed live on social media platforms.
Standard and Blitz events will be held in an open format. Winners will be awarded as their age groups, rating categories, and government, mercantile and higher education categories. All participants will receive certificates of participation.
