Saajida, Janali, Dinethya, Tuvini enter semis
Four experienced players in the women’s category — Saajida Razick, Janali Manamperi, Dinethya Dharmaratne and Tuvini de Alwis — booked the berths in the semi-finals of the SLTA Hard Court Tennis Championship after coming out victorious in their respective quarter-final encounters played at the Royal College Tennis Courts in Reid Avenue.
Saajida overcame Dinara de Silva by 2-0 while Janali defeated Anjalika Kurera, who retired at the halfway stage of the second set due to a leg injury. Dinethya underwent some anxious moments before getting the better of Nesangi Hemakumara by 2-1 and the match between Tuvini and Inuki Jayaweera too was stopped early before the first set was completed due to an injury to the latter.
Saajida with take on Janali in the first semi-final while in the second qualifier Dinethya will meet Tuvini in their quest to earn a berth in the final. The championship is being played in three venues — SLTA Courts in Greenpath, Queens Club Courts and Royal College Courts — and is scheduled to end on May 6.
