The Inter-Plantation Rugby 7s, will return to action after a lapse of three years and will be held on April 8 at the Dikoya Darawela Cricket Club (DMCC) ground. This will be the 20th edition of the most followed rugby 7s tournament among the plantation sector.

There will be 12 teams playing in this year’s edition with Talawakelle Plantations being the defending champions. The winners will be awarded the Colombia Trophy. The plantation teams in contention are Thalawakele, Kelani Valley, Elpitiya, Hatton, Bogawanthalawa, Mathurata, Malawatte Valley, Balangoda, Maskeliya, Kotagala, Lankem Agarapathana combined, Kegalle, Arpico Namunukula and Sri Lanka State Plantation.

Manjula Samarakoon, the former Ananda College rugby player, who is the tournament convener said; “We are very proud to stage this tournament every year which is a flagship event in the planters’ calendar. As the event did not take place last three years due to the pandemic, we foresee that this year’s tournament will be well patronised as it comes alive again at the DMCC. We have lined up everything that matters for an elite rugby event”.

Leading fertilizer brand, Lak Govijana Fertilizers which provides high quality fertilizers to the plantation industry, has come forward as main sponsors of the tournament.
