A 181-run stand for the third wicket between national discard Dinesh Chandimal and Pasindu Sooriyabandara helped Team Galle to record a convincing 79-run win over Team Kandy in their National Super League 50-over fixture played at P. Sara Oval yesterday.

Galle lost two quick wickets and were reeling at 2 for 17 when Chandimal and Sooriyabandara stitched the match-winning partnership that propelled their score to 268 for the loss of five wickets. Chandimal remained unbeaten on 111 off 146 deliveries and also hit nine boundaries and two sixes, while Sooriyabandara missed out on a deserving century by just two runs. In his aggressive 104-ball 98, Sooriyabandara struck seven fours and four sixes.

In their run chase, Kandy collapsed to 189 with Asanka Manoj capturing 4 for 28 and Akila Dananjaya claiming 3 for 27. Oshada Fernando, who opened batting for Kandy with Niroshan Dickswella, top scored with 60.

Meanwhile at the R. Premadasa Stadium, an all-round performance by Lahiru Madusanka laid the foundation to help Team Jaffna record a 25-run win over Colombo in their National Super League 50-over.

Lahiru cracked 72 runs in 79 balls with five boundaries and shared a valuable partnership of 91 runs for the seventh wicket with Dilum Sudeera to help Jaffna make a modest score of 231 runs after batting first. Lahiru followed it up with a four-wicket haul to restrict Colombo to 206 in their run-chase. Binura Fernando and Shiran Fernando shared four wickets as Jaffna clinched their fourth win of the season.
