DSI announced the launch of the 21st DSI Supersport Schools Volleyball Championship at a press conference held at Hotel Nippon in Colombo as the top footwear manufacturer in the country came forward to continue its commitment towards the national sport.

The tournament is being conducted with the support of Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation and School Volleyball Association and Ministry of Education, which has a significant spot in the history book of Sri Lankan volleyball.

Initiated by DSI in 1999 along with the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation and Ministry of Education, the purpose of the championship is to provide an opportunity as well as necessary support to rural and urban volleyball players as well as a platform of the national standard for them to show off their skills and further build their careers in both the national and international arena.

Having a total of 198 teams participated in the championship from the point of initiation, the Schools Volleyball Championship has contributed to the development of nearly 400 sports personalities. This year, the organisers expect the participation of over 5,000 teams from across the island.

“It is a significant occasion for us at DSI, as 2023 marks the 21st year of the DSI Supersport Schools Volleyball Championship. It is both a pleasure and privilege for DSI to sponsor this much-anticipated annual event, which serves as a platform of recognition for talented young sportsmen and women from schools all across the island. It is also our hope that the DSI Supersport Schools Volleyball Championship will play a crucial role in developing and popularizing Volleyball as the national sport of our country”, stated Thusitha Rajapaksa, the Managing Director of D. Samson and Sons.

The tournament will be held at district, provincial, and national levels with the district matches taking place from May 13 and 14 and completed before June 20. The teams that win first and second places will qualify for the provincial level via district level matches. Provincial matches will be played in July and completed before August 13.

The teams that places first, second, and third from the provincial level competitions will qualify for the national level. The national level matches will be played from August 29 to 31 and from September 1 to 3. The final matches will be held on September 23 and 24. The age categories are Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 for boys and girls.

Applications for the tournament will be available after March 28 at all DSI showrooms across the island. Completed applications should be submitted to the nearest DSI Showroom. Applications can also be posted to the Marketing Department at No.257, High level Road, Navinna, Maharagama. All applications must be submitted before April 25.
