The much delayed Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Sri Lanka Schools Badminton Association (SLSBA) for the term of 2022-23, that had attracted questions and criticism for delaying conveniently, will now be held on April 20, its Secretary Malika Wadduge said. Based on rules and regulations, the AGM was supposed to be held by last Friday.

However, according to Wadduge, there had been various delays including their President’s busy schedule, school term tests et al.

“Our President had written to the Ministry of Education and obtained the permission on Thursday to conduct it on the delayed date. He was also down with their big match and other commitments,” she reasoned out.

Their AGM would now be held on the eve of S.L.A. Ratnayake Memorial All-Island Inter-School Under-17 Badminton Team Championship to be held at S. Thomas’ College Bandarawela, starting April 21. There also was another allegation, the association had collected money for the school identity cards of the players, however, were never issued.

Responding to this, she did admit there had been problems, however, backed out saying that she was not sitting in the association at the time of the incident in 2018.

“I was appointed only last year. Hence ever since then we haven’t collected or issued any cards. Therefore, players already possessing the identity cards are good to go. Others can play with their original birth certificate and a signed photograph by their respective principals.”

“We haven’t printed identity cards nor did we collect money last year,” Wadduge reiterated.

In case if the existing documents are outdated, players can produce the aforementioned documents and can still take part in the tournament at forthcoming events this year, she added.
