Time runs out for Maliyadeva

A brave attempt by Maliyadeva to force a victory over St. Anthony’s Katugastota in their inter-school match played at the formers ground was of no avail as time ran out.

There were some superb performances by players of both teams. Consistent scorer Gayan Manishan (62 and 68 not out) Chamikara Edirisinghe (5 for 40 and 3 for 96) and Vajira Kumara (7 for 103, 23 and 51 not out) were the pick of the Devans.

Left handed opener Hiran Wickremasekera (40 and 64) and Adil Reyal (6 for 58) excelled for the Anthonians. Their backs to the wall at 134 for 6 in their second innings, the Anthonians were saved by stubborn resistance from skipper Dulash Kumarasinghe (45) and Hirantha Seneviratne (60).
The Devans needed 245 for victory, had raced to 141 for 1 when time ran out.
