Navin takes Sirimanne Trophy

Twetnty-six-year Old Navin Samarasinghe who returned from Melbourne University after Graduation won the late Srinath Sirimanne trophy on offer for the first time at the Queens Club open squash championship concluded at the Gymkhana club courts yesterday.

Samarasinghe outplayed Eranga Amunugama in straight sets 9-0 , 9-1 and 9-2. The final lasted 30 minutes. In the Girls open Final Randima Ranaweera beat Ashani Weerasinghe also in straight sets 9-6, 9-2 and 9-2 in a keenly fought out contest. She received the Christopher Dias Challenge trophy for the first time.

In the girls under 17 competition Kavini Amarasekera beat Gayara Jayasuriya 9-6, 9-4 and 9-2, Yasun Weerasuriya beat H.R. Laksiri 9-3, 9-0, 9-10 and 9-6 in the boys under 17 tournament

Randima Ranaweera made it a double when she won the Girls under tournament when she beat Ashani Weerasinghe 9-2, 9-4, and 9-4.,
