View(s):“Easy Way of Learning English Grammar & Composition” by Norman Saranaweera, is a new guide for the learner that focuses on Grammar as the main tool to master the language. The author, despite being visually impaired, had a long, nearly 30 years in 6 schools, and successful career as a teacher of English. He graduated from the University of Peradeniya in 1982, with a Degree in English, and later followed a 1-year Diploma in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL).
The book, first written in Braille and transcribed into print form, is suitable for learners of any age group. It has lessons and activities ordered from simple to complex, covering all aspects of grammar, as well as a section on composition, which helps students build a sound base of correct writing.
The book comprises 28 Chapters, beginning from simple theories such as subject verb agreement to more complex structures such as relative clauses. The author provides many examples of common and frequent errors made by language users, while providing guidance with regard to correct usage and formation of proper sentences. The language used in the composition section is lucid, simple and idiomatic. There are chapters on comprehension, story writing, paragraph writing as well as letter writing. The book also adheres to examination needs of all sorts of students.
Part of the proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to Self-Strength United Alliance of Disabled People. The book is priced at Rs 2,200 Rupees, while Rs 700 would be discounted for orders placed through DX-MAX, OPTIMO, INNOVAGE, GRANTON and the Minsara Bookshop.
