2019 Grade 1 Admissions already ‘fixed’: CTU

The Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) this week charged that the selection process for the 2019 Grade 1 Admissions, is already marred with corruption, because the Old Boys Unions (OBU) in some schools have failed to follow the rule set out in the 24/2018 Circular, which strictly requires the School’s Principal be in the panel of OBU members participating in the selection process. However, this stipulation is being ignored, charged CTU General Secretary Joseph Stalin.

He said the OBU panel in about 12 popular schools are not headed by the School Principal. “This can lead to corruption in the selection process,” he said. In the past, the Admission process has been riddled with allegations of corruption, with parents complaining that the Government’s policy of ‘the nearest school is the best school’, not being followed for Grade 1 Admissions, in popular schools in Colombo, and other populated towns. - CC
