MAS Intimates dominate with 3 Wins, 2 Runners-up from 7 Finals
View(s):Playing in 5 of the 7 Finals, MAS Intimates stole the limelight with 3 wins at the Mercantile Open & Novices Table Tennis (TT) Championships 2016, organised and conducted by the Mercantile TT Association, at the S. Thomas’ College Indoor Stadium last weekend. MAS Intimate Paddlers won the Open Women’s Singles, Open Men’s and Women’s Doubles. The blue-ribbon fixture of the tournament was the Open Men’s Singles finals where two top national players, Chameera Ginige of Commercial Credit met Nirmala Jayasinghe of MAS Intimates,
locked horns to exhibit a high standard of skills. The two stars matched each other in every department of the game, as fortunes swung from side to side, with Ginige prevailing in a hard fought 3-2 win. In the Veterans Men’s Singles Joy Abeysiriwardene (Commercial Bank) dethroned three times champion Rajiva Wijetunga of MAS Intimates 3-1. A notable feature in two of the finals was in the Open Women’s Singles and Open Men’s Doubles which were home-and-home tussles between MAS Intimates Paddlers. - LR
