Moors Sports Club beat SSC by 75 runs on the first innings in an Under-21 semi-final of the Colombo District Cricket Association (CDCA) tournament at Maitland Place recently.

Taking first lease of the SSC turf, Moors were dismissed for 227 runs and the home side was wrapped up for 152. Batting a second time Moors were shot out for 138 leaving SSC to chase down 213 runs for an outright win.’

At stumps, the home side was tottering at 112 for 7 wickets.

According to the General Secretary of the CDCA, Anura De Silva, this is the first under 21 tournament to be organised by a District Cricket Association in the country.

Each side’s first innings is restricted to 60 overs.

The teams that participated were – NCC, Nugegoda W&SC, SSC, Egodauyana United SC, Old Bens SC, Moors SC, Colombo Malay CC, Memon SC, BRC, Liberty CC, Old Thurstanites and Lankan CC – and were divided into four groups.

The next semi-final will be played in July or, August.

SSC 152 in 47 overs ( M. Bhanuka 41, K. Kulasekera 30, R. Mendis 52, T. De Silva 2 for 43, C. Mapatuna 3 for 14) and 112 for 7 in 16 overs (M. Bhanuka 45, C. De Silva 3 for 39, C. Rajapaksha 2 for 27)
