The Sri Lanka Under-16 national football team left for Katmandu, Nepal to take part in the second South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Under-16 Football Tournament. The team, led by De Mazenod College defender Ranju Silva, will include a total of 20 players in the squad who will be accompanied by six officials appointed by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka.

The young footballers will compete alongside India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan, Afghanistan and hosts Nepal in the tournament which will run from July 20 to 30 in Kathmandu.

The local Under-16 side includes a mixture of talent picked from different parts of Sri Lanka, with the initiative of giving the youngsters more international exposure.

Footballers representing De Mazenod Kandana, Royal College, Zahira College, Dharmadutha Badulla, Vivekananda MV, Thurstan, Kalutara Muslim MV, Lumbini, Holy Cross, Carey, St. Aloysius Galle, TB Jayah Colombo, Al-Adhan Badulla and Maliyadeva Kurunegala will represent Sri Lanka in the competition.
