Royal College clinched the Under 19 Colombo South Zone basketball championship when they downed Prince of Wales College by 58 points to 39 in the final, played at Reid Avenue recently.

At halftime the Royalists held a comfortable 30 to 11 point lead.

For the Royalists, Julian Gunasinghe was in excellent form with 24 points, while Shamaaz Shiraz and Sandeepa Ratnayake chipped in with 10 points each.For the Cambrians the leading scorer was Ramesh Chanuka with 19 points, while Ashan Kalhara added seven.
Ramesh Chanuka was adjudged the Best Offensive Player of the tournament, while Ashen Renuka and Sandeepa Ratnayake, both of Royal College, were the Best Defensive and Most Valuable Players. Sameera Chanaka of Royal College was the Most Popular Player of the tournament. (BM)

St. Sebastian’s settle for consolation

St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa settled for the consolation final of the Under 19 Colombo South Zone basketball championship when they defeated St. Peter’s College by 64 points to 45 at Reid Avenue recently. At the short whistle the winners were well in front with 28 points to 13.

Nishen Perera led the scoring for St. Sebastian’s with 17 points, while the other scorers were S. Ramanayake with 16 and Joel De Silva 14

For the Peterites, Chris Dias top scored with 14 points, while D. Yohan and Asitha Eranda added eight points each. (BM)
