second time this year — as the latter returned to snatch the Men’s Singles title at the 14th President’s Cup yesterday.

The Women’s Singles championship was won by reigning National champ Chalani Lakmali who beat top seed Joseph Roshita in straightforward sets in the tournament which was played at the Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka headquarters in Maharagama.
Cooray after beating Manuka Ashen by straight sets, 25/15 and 15/8 in the semi-final, suffered an early blow in the final against Fernando who won the first set 25/15. Fernando. Cooray won the remaining two sets by 25/17 and 25/22.

The third place playoff was won by Viraj Fernando who outsmarted Ashen by straight sets, 25/15 and 25/23.

Women’s Singles winner Lakmali had very little trouble in beating Roshita who suffered a major blow in the final, going down by 25/24 and 25/10. Lakmali, who beat Madushika Kanchanamala by 25/11 and 25/10, played up to her potential to safeguard her status as the top ranked women’s singles player of the island. Losing finalist Roshita overcame Yashika Rahubadda by 25/19 and 25/14. Rahubadda ended her off-colour form by winning the third place playoff, beating Kanchanamala by 25/4 and 25/19.
