third Hopes Week Challenge Trophy, which is underway in Vienna, Austria.

The tournament began last Monday and will end tomorrow.

Helitha, who is Sri Lanka’s reigning Under-12 Boy’s Singles champion has been in great form prior to the Hopes Week Challenge. Imasha, also a young and talented player, is the country’s current top ranked player in the Under-12 Girl’s Singles category.

Both paddlers stand a chance of reaching the top eight though they are expected to face tough opposition.

The Hopes Week and Challenge is conducted under the official supervision of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).

Both Helitha and Imasha are below the age of 12 and are rookies to the Hopes programme, which will be held through seven days in the Werner Schalarger Academy in Austria. The ITTF Hopes Week and Challenge 2013 includes a coaching camp from June 10 to 15 and the Challenge Championships. This is the third edition of this championship. On the previous two occasions Sri Lanka participated in proceedings along with 40 other countries. The two paddlers were accompanied by Coach Vajira Wickramasinghe. – NA
