External projects in any course discipline bring diversity to a course and enormous experience to students. Through projects of the real world students gets the exposure to the needs of the market and they get educated in various subject areas other than their main stream of study. It is an opportunity for a learner to explore their new ideas to match the corporate world and make their product or service match to the requirements of the industry.

Designs by LIFT students for the Lipton new tea flavours launch

Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (LIFT) welcomes such projects from the corporate sector to provide fashion and style related solutions to various industry needs. May it be a product launch or an event, LIFT creates opportunities to students to link their creativity to the corporate sector to make various fashion presentations. Many such events have taken place locally and currently internationally.

On product launches one recent project was the LIPTON new tea flavors launch were the final year fashion design students designed and manufactured a range of Avant Garde designs to represent seven flavors of tea that was Jasmine, Ginger, Citrus, Lemon, Mint, Earls Grey and EnglishBreakfast. These flavors were the inspiration for the designs for 14 students were final seven designs were selected by a team of professionals from Lipton. Students then manufactured these designs and styled within a short period of time which was then showcased during the Lipton press conference and the show afterwards at the 8 degrees floating restaurant at the Cinnamon lake side hotel. Similarly the most recent project that was completed was for the Sri Lanka army – Virudaru committee. It was a fund raiser for the education and betterment of thechildren of the fallen war heroes. This project was a fashion show which was designed and organized by LIFT for the ViruDaru on their request.

Camouflage Fashion Show

The project scope was large to capture an audience of 1500. LIFT brought the students creativity to support this fund raiser through LIFT senior design graduates collections and a special collection made for the theme of the show “Camouflage”. The camouflage collection consisted 18 creative outfits made by the original camouflage fabric of the Sri Lanka Army blending with the Sri Lankan mercerized cotton. The collection was stylized with headgears and variety of other accessories specially made by student designers. LIFT staff and management were responsible for the whole design and production of the fashion show which was supported by many leading professionals from the industry to execute it. There was a special presentation of large video walls projecting the natural beauty of Sri Lanka which created backdrops for every collection. The videos were specially created for the

The currently on going external project is for South Africa for educating the under privileged children with design education. The extent of variety of the needs and how fashion /design can be applied to various industries are been well nurtured to all LIFT designers and the staff and management believes in working with the industry would bring enormous experience to all LIFT designers.
