The Great HR Debate, the annual inter-organisational debating competition, is a much sought-after event of the annual National HR Conference which is organised by the Institute of Personnel Management, Sri Lanka (IPM).

Three fiercely fought debates were held on 02 June 2013 at the HR House on the topic “Performance based rewards is the key to achieve excellent performance”, among 06 teams grouped as: Commercial Bank vs. Nations Trust Bank (NTB); Hayleys vs. Sampath Bank; and Hirdaramani vs. GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).

The teams proposing the topic were Commercial Bank, Hayleys and Hirdramani. All opposing teams, NTB, Sampath and GSK managed to outspeak their respective proponents and qualify for the semifinal rounds which will be held on 07th June and 12th June 2013 at the HR House, IPM, Colombo 06. The winners of the semifinal rounds will battle it out at the ‘finals’ of the Great HR Debate 2013, on 18 June at the National HR Conference 2013 at the ‘Waters Edge’.

The aforementioned winners were selected by an eminent panel of judges: Senior Manager HR, Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd., Peter Dabare; Director HR, Taj Hotels, Major Rohitha Amarapala; Director HR and Administration Lanka Sathosa Limited, Priyal Perera; Senior Lecturer, Department of HRM, University of Colombo, Dr. Arosha Adikaram. The moderator at the event was Bhathiya Hettiyarachchi who is also the Chairman of the Great HR Debate 2013.

The Great HR Debate 2013, exclusively sponsored by Commercial Bank PLC is an event organized by IPM along with the NHRC 2013 to be held on 18th and 19th June, to encourage the corporate sector to team-up and show-case their talents through their debating skills.
