One of the latest Sri Lankan films that is undergoing its post-production, ‘Sinahawa Atharin’– a gripping love story which revolves around a love triangle– unites its director Sanath Gunatilake and veteran producer Chaminda Perera. Sanath makes his second direction to a script of Chaminda who produced the movie ‘Situmukariyo’ in which Sanath made his debut in 1980. Chaminda, now domiciled in Canada came across the story of ‘Sinahawa Atharin’, a true incident and Sanath was so exited that he made it into a film when he heard of it.

The film also came up while Sanath was planning a movie on his favourite singer and to whom he also had penned songs, late Milton Mallawarachchi. But it had to be delayed due to its large budget. However Sanath was interested in directing ‘Sinahawa Atharin’ and Sunil T. Fernando was ready to be his producer.

“Finding a producer is the biggest problem today. I would rather say it is a miracle to find a professional producer who would think about the quality of the film before its financial benefit,” Sanath said unravelling the bitter realities of today’s cinema. “Most of the producers and directors plan ways to recover money forgetting about the quality of the film,” he said.

Starring Semini Iddamalgoda, Chris Henri, Jayani Senanayake, Robin Fernando, Nadeeka Gunasekera and Sanath himself in the stellar cast ‘Sinhawa Atharin’ is now in its editing stage at the Turning Point Studio. “When selecting the cast the biggest problem we had was to find a French actor. It took us sometime to find Chris Henri,” he said.

Revolving around a traditional Sri Lankan woman who gets married to a French national who loves Sri Lanka culture, the film shows the dilemma faced by the woman when her husband gave priority to his higher education.  Sujith Nishantha handled the camera while Manoj Lakmal did costume designing and Lalith Dissanayake edits the film. Keerthi Ruwan Lal is the assistant director
The film was shot at the scenic locations in Galle Face Hotel, Heritance Hotel and Hotel Sovereign and a few other locations in Beruwela and Colombo and their surroundings.
