The Alliance Francaise de Colombo in its weekly film screening will showcase French cinema with interesting themes.  French-Canadian film ‘Monsieur Lazhar’ directed by Philippe Falardeau is a comedy drama which tells about an Algerian immigrant who starts on a teaching career.

In Montreal, Bachir Lazhar, an Algerian immigrant, is hired at short notice to replace a teacher at a Primary school who disappeared suddenly. He gradually learns to understand and getcloser to the students despite the cultural gap he had and made him feel uneasy from the very first lesson. While the class begins a slow process of healing, a person at the school suspects Bachir painful past, that threaten his expulsion from the country at any time. The film is screened at 3 and 6.30 pm on May 7 and 8.

‘Le Diable Probablement’ a 1977 film directed by Robert Bresson will be screened at 3 pm and 6.30 pm on May 14 and 15. Charles drifts through politics, religion and psychoanalysis, rejecting them all. Once he realizes to the depth of his disgust the moral and physical decline of the society he lives in, he decides that suicide is the only option…

The films are screened at the auditorium of Alliance Française de Colombo, 11, Barnes Place Colombo 7 and are free of charge.
