Ekneligoda habeas corpus case before Appeal Court

The habeas corpus case of missing journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda will be taken up by the Court of Appeal when the Magistrate’s Court inquiry is concluded.
Counsel Chrishmal Warnasuriya, appearing for the missing journalist’s wife Sandya Ekneligoda, told Court that if any problems or issues arose during the magisterial inquiry, he would take the case before the Court of Appeal. The Appeal Court had earlier directed the Homagama Magistrate to inquire into the journalist’s disappearance.
Cartoonist and political activist Prageeth Ekneligoda went missing on January 24, 2010, shortly before the Presidential Election. Mrs. Ekneligoda and her two children have filed a habeas corpus case demanding that her husband be produced in Court. The respondents in this case are Deputy Inspector General (DIG) CID Nandana Moonasinghe, DIG Jayantha Kulathilake, HQI Homagama, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Attorney-General.
Appearing for the petitioners are Chrishmal Warnasuriya and Nalaka Jayasuriya, instructed by Sunil Watagala.
