The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) will meet with the Speaker on Wednesday to request the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice to be reconsidered, BASL secretary Sanjeewa Gamage told the Sunday Times.

He said the delegation comprising the Bar Association Executive Committee and past presidents would meet with Speaker Chamal

Rajapaksa at the Parliament complex next Wednesday to reconsider the decision to impeach Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake, who has been summoned before the Parliamentary Select Committee next Friday.
“We hope the meeting would bring positive results even though the impeachment process has already been started,” Mr. Gamage said and expressed his confidence, adding the Bar Association is the largest professional body whose views were also important and should be taken into consideration.
