ACTA comes forward for the upliftment of war heroes’ children

Advanced Construction Training Academy (ACTA) is the training arm of the National Construction Association of Sri Lanka (NCASL). ACTA was established with Public and Private sector Partnership (PPP) as a model training center to serve the construction industry sector with state of the art training facilities. For the construction of the multistoried building presently occupied by ACTA located at Pelawatta, Battaramulla funds were provided by the Treasury, NCASL & the Agence Francasie De Development (AFD) of France. These three agencies have provided a total of over three hundred & fifty million Rupees (Rs. 350,000,000/=) and ACTA is considered as one of the most Successful projects of AFD.

On 25th September 2012 ACTA marked another mile stone in its brief history by providing vocational training, to a different group of children’s. On this day 20 scholarships were awarded to the children of war heroes who have sacrificed their lives or who have become disabled due to the ethnic war. The necessary funds for the award of these scholarships were provided by members of the National Construction Association of Sri Lanka. This occasion was graced by the President of the Institute of Engineers of Sri Lanka (IESL), Dr. Ananda Ranasighe, and the guest of honor was, the Chair Person of the Ranaviru Authority Mrs. Pathma Wettewe. Addressing the gathering, the chief guest highly commended this program since it will pave way for these children for a bright future in the construction industry sector.

Speaking on this occasion, M.G Amarasuriya Executive Director of ACTA gave a brief explanation as to how this programme was initiated and further mentioned that he was very happy since ACTA was able to get involved in such a noble act, as a mark of respect to the thousands of soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty of our mother land. Mrs. Pathma Wettewe also spoke on this occasion and conveyed her thanks to ACTA for coming to the assistance of these needy children.

This scholarship programme was initiated by Mr. Priyantha Perera the Chairman of ACTA and NCASL. Over 15 construction companies who are members of the NCASL, volunteered to sponsor the scholarship programme, and 20 students were selected through with the help of the “Ranaviru Authority” to follow this programme. This NVQ Level 4 QS programme is of 9 months duration, of which 3 months institutional and 6 months of on the Job training. Although the value of the course is around Rs. 100,000/=.
