This award aims to provide a robust education in the field of Computing while allowing the widest possible choice. Students on this award are able to sample a wide range of topics across the field of computing such as programming, networking, databases and web applications.

Programme Structure

The learning outcomes of each module are mapped onto computing related cognitive and practical abilities. These are intended to maximize graduate’s ability to solve professional problems in the computing field.

Greater emphasis is placed on the basic computing algorithms, programming, techniques for computer system development, operation of hardware and software systems, computer networks and database systems.

A diverse range of teaching strategies including lectures, tutorials, case studies, portfolio of practical exercises, continuous assessment, group and individual projects and seminars given by external speakers is employed to achieve the essential learning outcomes.

Students undertake a computing project in their final year which enables them to extend their knowledge and skills significantly beyond the learning outcomes of the modules previously studied.

Students are required to develop a computing solution supported by appropriate research in the computing theories and technologies. Each student will be assigned a supervisor to guide and support the student in order to successfully complete the project.

Career Opportunities

The final destination of a Computing Science graduate will depend on their interests. A classic job title of recent graduates include Application Programmer, Web Designer, Software Engineer, IT Consultant, Systems Engineer and IT Systems Analyst.
