The renovated Maligawatte flats will be handed over to the residents under the patronage of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa today.

The Maligawatte flats were built in 1973, and this is the first complete renovation work done after 39 years. The renovation was under President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s ‘Mahinda Chinthana vision for the future’ programme and the ‘Janasevana’ programme initiated by Minister Wimal Weerawansa.

The National Housing Development Authority (NDHA) has spent Rs 280 million to renovate the buildings, drainage system and the sewerage system. A children’s park and a herbal park have also been built, while all the roads within the housing scheme have been carpeted.

The construction work was carried out by the National Engineering Corporation under the guidance of the NHDA.
