Leading male vocal ensemble, The Revelations completed a successful tour of China and Hong Kong last month thrilling audiences with their trademark acappella singing, intricate harmonies and beat boxing.

They performed initially in the Guangdong Concert Hall in China to a capacity audience of over 1000. “It was a new experience to our audience and we were overwhelmed and humbled by their reaction and also by the warmth and gracious hospitality we experienced,” says the group’s Choral Director Sanjeev Jayaratnam, expressing their thanks to artistic director Man Kin Ping, a renowned musician in China and the members of Plaisir Ensemble Hong Kong who invited them on this tour.

The performance in Hong Kong was on the invitation of the Plaisir Ensemble to perform at their debut concert titled “Everlasting Love” which was held in the Hong Kong City Concert Hall. The Revelations performed several numbers and their rendition in Cantonese of a current hit “Under a vast sky” scored with the audience.

Manager of The Revelations Priyan De Livera said that they were “inspired and uplifted” by this cultural exchange where they were able to showcase some of the best aspects of Sri Lankan choral talent.

Currently ranked ninth in the world among male choirs, local audiences can keep a date with the Revelations at their Christmas show “He is Christmas” on November 30 and December 1 at the Lionel Wendt Theatre.
