EdHat International (UK), a Higher Education examinations award body opeating in Sri Lanka, organised its annual conference on 11 October 2012 at the Ramada Hotel, Colombo. The theme of the event “Quality & Relevance of Higher Education and the Employability of Graduates” was targeted at the corporate sector, particularly CEOs and Heads of the HR Departments of major companies. The chief guest was Dr. Sunil Jayantha Navarathne, the Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and Guest of Honour was Prof. Dayantha Wijasekara the Chairman of Tertiary Education & Vocational Educational Commission. A presentation competition was held for current EdHat students and a certificate for the Best Presenter 2012 was awarded to Miss. Fariha Rahmathulla and Highly Commended to Miss. Dilani Raju and Miss. Farhana Rizvi.

At the conference, IDM Nations Campus, the first EdHat accredited learning provider in Sri Lanka, was represented by the Chairman, Dr Bandu Ranasinghe and the Managing Director, Mr V Janagan. Dr Bandu Ranasinghe confirmed the benefits of partnership with EdHat for IDM and students who were both able to access greater opportunities.

In his presentation, Dr Mike Alderson the Chief of Academic Awards at EdHat International emphasised the need for partnership with the private sector to ensure the relevance of EdHat qualifications. The Mission of EdHat International is to meet the educational and professional development needs in Sri Lanka by offering quality academic programmes. As the main end-user, employer has a key role in ensuring that the professional and technical profile of EdHat diplomates continues to meet the ever-changing requirements in the workplace. The employer can fulfil this important role by working with EdHat in different ways such as contributing to the delivery of practical components of EdHat programmes or more formally by offering work placements to EdHat Diplomates.
