Ananda College wins age group Championship

Ananda College, Colombo won the 35th National age group championship 2009 at the Sugathadasa Swimming Complex recently. The team led by Chanaka Malimbada cruised to victory with an overall tally of 386 points with Trinity College Kandy in second place with 346 points closely followed by St. Josephs College in third place with 314 points.

Three new meet records were set by the Ananda swimmers one was by Cherantha De Silva in the Under 14 50M Butterfly with a time of 30.15. He put in a great performance to win all five events that he took part in. In the Under 19 category Dinuka Thibbatumuwena established a new meet record in the 200M Breast Stroke with a time of 2.38.06 and Punnasa Senanayake set a new meet record in the 200M Freestyle with a time of 2.04.73.

It is noteworthy that Heshan Unamboowe of Trinity College put in an awe inspiring performance when he established 7 new meet records in the 7 events he took part thus winning the individual championship in the Under 19 category with Rasith Chalanga of Ananda College becoming the runner up.
