The Remembrance Lecture of Late Eng. Russel De Zilwa was held successfully on 11th May 2026 at 5.30 pm at the Wimalasurendra Auditorium, IESL. Organised by the IMechE Sri Lanka Group, the event served as a heartfelt tribute to honour the life, professional excellence, and lasting contributions of Late Eng. Russel De Zilwa to the engineering fraternity.
The remembrance lecture was delivered by Lucien De Pereira, Past Chair IMechE Sri Lanka Group, on the topic, “Challenging Role of Volunteers in Professional Institutions.” The lecture highlighted the importance of volunteerism, leadership, and commitment in sustaining and strengthening professional engineering institutions.
The event was attended by the immediate family members of the late Eng. Russel De Zilwa, senior officials of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Southern Asia Region and Sri Lanka Group, Ms. Farah Baksh – IMechE Global Relationships Manager, President, past presidents and senior officials of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL), and many close friends and colleagues of Russel.
The gathering reflected the deep respect and admiration held for Late Eng. Russel De Zilwa within the engineering community, and provided an opportunity to celebrate the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
