Police team to probe coal fraud, Commission asks public for information

A Police team under the command of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) has been appointed to assist investigations of the Special Presidential Commission of Inquiry (SPCoI) appointed to probe whether any irregularities or unlawful acts had occurred during coal procurement purchases.
The Police team has been appointed by the Inspector General of Police following a request made by the Commission. It will be engaged in investigating complaints made to the SPCoI.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe has appointed Deputy Solicitors General Sanjeewa Dissanayake and Ganga Wakishta Arachchi to assist the Commission with its work.
The SPCoI has already issued an open invitation to the public to provide information related to its investigation. The Commission’s Secretary P V Bandulasena requests the public to submit any information they have to the Commission’s office in Aluthkade before May 22.
