She noted that a robust TVET framework is essential not only for workforce development, but also for enabling the transition towards a greener and more sustainable economy.

The conference was organised by the Colombo Plan Staff College in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education of Sri Lanka, bringing together policymakers, education specialists, and international stakeholders to discuss strategic reforms in vocational education systems.

Key discussions focused on aligning TVET systems with emerging global demands, particularly in the areas of climate resilience, green technologies, and sustainable employment opportunities. The PM reiterated that investing in skills development tailored to these sectors is vital for enhancing national competitiveness and ensuring inclusive economic growth.

The conference marked a significant step in fostering regional and international collaboration to modernize TVET systems and address the challenges posed by climate change through education and skills innovation.
