The government has finalised the Grade 6 module, which will commence from 2027, after the syllabus was evaluated for quality and content by an expert panel, Deputy Education Minister Madura Seneviratne said.

He said that none of the issues that cropped up this year over the module will occur now with the syllabus carefully evaluated by the team from the National Institute of Education and the Educational Quality Development (EQD) branch of the ministry.

Once the new module is introduced next year; a programme will be put in place to ensure that the module is properly implemented. This will be done by specially trained school inspectors.

“We have trained 1,200 school inspectors and they will be tasked with monitoring the implementation,” he said.

Schools will also be given the necessary digital facilities including smart classrooms to implement the new module.

Meanwhile, the Grade 7 and Grade 1 modules for 2027 have been evaluated by the expert panels and have been cleared for introduction to schools. (DW)
